Cyanuric acid is a chlorine stabilizer for swimming pools. It is usually referred to as “stabilizer”. It should not be confused with muriatic acid which is often used to adjust the pH.

Cyanuric acid combines with free chlorine in pool water, protecting it from the sun’s ultraviolet rays and reducing chlorine loss. Properly managed, cyanuric acid can reduce the amount of chlorine needed to maintain the minimum chlorine residual in an outdoor pool. Many chemical suppliers recommend that the optimal range for cyanuric acid is 30-50 ppm, although a study published by the University at California at Davis1 , indicates that there is still significant savings in chemical costs with cyanuric acid levels as low as 2 or 3 ppm.
 

Lowering the hypochlorous acid concentration can have a significant impact on the rates of any reaction for which hypochlorous acid is involved in a rate limiting step. Specifically disinfection and oxidation of contaminants can be slowed by the lowered hypochlorous acid concentration.Generally speaking, the rate of disinfection or the rate of oxidation of a contaminant in the water by hypochlorous acid could be described by the following equation:

in which:
 N represents a microbial concentration (such as deduced by a plate count) of the microbe to be killed or the concentration of the oxidizable species (such as various organic compounds, breakpoint susceptible chloramines, sulfide, or nitrite) to be destroyed;
–dN/dt represents the rate of loss of the microbe or oxidizable material;
k represents a rate constant; a is a positive real number that is specific to the type of reaction involved; and
 [HOCl] represents the hypochlorous acid concentration.

Dichlor is a chlorine compound used to purify swimming pool and spa water. It’s full name is sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione or dichloroisocyanuric acid. In chemical language technically can say  dichlor is the cyanuric acid molecule with two chlorine atoms and one sodium atom. This combination is a stable chlorine, which comes as a colorless solid. The cyanuric acid extends the life of the chlorine by shielding it from ultraviolet rays.

Dichlor granules dissolve quickly in water. They can be added to the water’s surface, pre-dissolved in a bucket of water or added via a chlorination system. The pH level of dichlor is very stable, which means there is no need to add pH-neutralizing chemicals.

Dichlor is typically sold in granular form. This provides a simple and convenient way to chlorinate pools and spas. Dichlor is completely soluble in water and does not generate insoluble solids. Also, dichlor does not contribute to scaling. Thus, the dichlor products are suitable for hard water. Dichlor is typically sold by the manufacturer as a granular product with free available chlorine content depending on which form is used (dihydrate or anhydrous). Dichlor is available with additives which may provide some additional benefit to the user. However, it is important to note that if additives are mixed with the product, the available chlorine will be less than 56% or 62%. The available chlorine content is provided on product labels.

Decolorant for cargo hold cleaning & Germicide and Disinfectant for ship sanitation system solution is widely used in water works for the chlorination of water. It is more commonly used for disinfection of waste water in treatment plants. High-test hypochlorite (HTH) is sold for chlorination of swimming pools and contains approximately 30% calcium hypochlorite. The crystalline salt is also sold for the same use; this salt usually contains less than 50% of calcium hypochlorite. However, the level of active chlorine may be much higher.
